The Context — The History
Jesus warns a crowd of thousands about hypocrisy and greed while religious leaders oppose him. First-century Palestine knew sharp divides between rich landowners and struggling peasants.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After teaching about storing treasures in heaven rather than on earth, Jesus uses the eye as lamp and warns against serving two masters. He then links treasure and heart inseparably.
