The Context — The History
Paul and Silas are imprisoned in Philippi after freeing a slave girl from a spirit. A Macedonian jailer, fearing punishment after an earthquake opens cells, asks how to be saved in a pagan colony.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Paul and Silas sing at midnight; an earthquake loosens chains. The jailer nearly kills himself, but Paul assures no one escaped. Trembling, he asks about salvation and receives the gospel for his household.
