The Context — The History
While Israel wandered toward Canaan, God gave Moses detailed instructions for a portable sanctuary. In the ancient world, temples signaled a deity's presence; Israel's tabernacle declared that the Lord who redeemed them would travel and dwell in their midst.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After the golden calf incident and renewed covenant, God commanded contributions from willing hearts for a sacred dwelling. Skilled craftsmen would build the tabernacle according to heavenly pattern so that God could live among the people he had brought out of Egypt.
