The Context — The History
Moses addressed Israel on the plains of Moab before they entered Canaan, recounting their history and calling them to covenant faithfulness. Even exile and scattering were imaginable futures, yet Moses promised that wholehearted seeking would still lead to finding God.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Deuteronomy 4 warns against idolatry after Israel sees God's greatness at Sinai. Moses anticipates disaster if they turn to other gods, yet even if they are driven to the ends of the earth, returning to seek the Lord with all their heart and soul will bring discovery.
