The Context — The History
Ruth is set in the period of the judges during a famine that drove Elimelek's family to Moab. After tragedy and return to Bethlehem, Ruth the Moabite gleaned in Boaz's field, illustrating covenant kindness within a society governed by harvest laws and clan responsibility.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Boaz noticed Ruth's loyal care for Naomi and instructed workers to leave extra grain. He praised her for leaving homeland and gods to seek refuge under the wings of Israel's God. His blessing asked the Lord to repay and reward her faithful kindness.
