The Context — The History
During a severe drought proclaimed by Elijah, a widow in Zarephath of Sidon faced starvation. God's provision through Elijah reached beyond Israel's borders, showing that the Lord who withholds rain also sustains those who trust him in famine.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Elijah was sent to a Gentile widow gathering sticks for a final meal. Though she had only a handful of flour and a little oil, Elijah promised God's supply until rain returned. She obeyed, and the jar and jug miraculously did not run out.
