The Context — The History
Jehoshaphat led Judah when surrounding nations threatened invasion. Chronicles presents his prayer at the temple as a model of communal dependence: God's people standing before the place bearing his Name and crying out together in crisis.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
A vast army marched against Judah. Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast and led assembly prayer in Jerusalem. He acknowledged God's rule over nations and confessed that in sword, plague, or famine, Judah would stand before God's temple, cry out, and trust him to hear and save.
