The Context — The History
Psalm 91 offered assurance to those living under threat in a dangerous world. Ancient Israelites faced disease, warfare, and night terrors. The psalm pictures intimate refuge under God's wings for those who make the Most High their dwelling place.

The psalmist declares safety for the one who rests in the Almighty's shadow, trusting divine protection from traps, plague, and terror by night. Angels are commanded to guard, and God promises to answer those who love him and know his name.
