The Context — The History
Lamentations 5 is a communal prayer after catastrophe. Though earlier chapters wrestle with judgment, the book ends by affirming God's eternal reign even when human institutions have failed.

The people list their humiliation: slaves rule over them, elders are dishonored, and joy has departed. After confessing their sins and asking God to remember, they anchor hope in the Lord's unending kingship.
