The Context — The History
Daniel's prayer in chapter 9 comes during the exile, around 539 BC as the seventy-year captivity nears its end. Daniel confesses national sin while appealing to God's covenant mercy.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After reading Jeremiah's prophecy about seventy years, Daniel fasted and prayed with confession of rebellion. He acknowledged God's righteousness and the people's guilt before celebrating divine forgiveness.
