The Context — The History
Malachi prophesied to post-exilic Judah, likely in the 5th century BC. The people offered defective sacrifices, tolerated injustice, and questioned whether serving God was worthwhile.

God confronted priests and people who brought blind, sick, and lame animals to the altar. Malachi declared that God deserves the best, not leftovers, and that His name must be revered among the nations.
