The Context — The History
Mary's song, the Magnificat, comes after the angel Gabriel announced she would bear the Messiah. First-century Galilee was a modest region under Herod Antipas and Roman authority.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Mary traveled to visit Elizabeth, who was also miraculously pregnant. When Mary greeted her, Elizabeth's baby leaped and Elizabeth blessed Mary, who responded by praising God and rejoicing in her Savior.
