The Context — The History
While Jesus was teaching, a woman in the crowd praised the mother who bore and nursed Him. Popular piety often honored family lineage; Jesus redirected attention to obedience to God's word.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Jesus had been casting out demons and confronting those who attributed His power to Beelzebul. When the woman shouted praise for His mother, Jesus redefined blessing around hearing and keeping God's word.
