The Context — The History
Ezekiel prophesied among exiles in Babylon after Jerusalem's fall, using vivid symbolic acts. Ancient cultures associated the heart with will and the spirit with vitality—transformation required divine surgery.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
God promises restoration beyond return from exile: cleansing, new heart, and Spirit within. Stone hearts unable to feel or obey would become responsive hearts of flesh by God's initiative.
