The Context — The History
Malachi prophesied after the temple was rebuilt when priests and people offered blemished sacrifices and withheld tithes. Post-exilic Judah struggled with cynicism about whether serving God mattered.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
God accused Israel of robbing him in tithes and offerings, inviting them to bring full tithes to the storehouse. Unusually, God invites testing his faithfulness with promise of overflowing blessing.
