The Context — The History
Jesus taught the Sermon on the Mount in Galilee to disciples and crowds under Roman occupation. Zealots sought violent revolt; Jesus blessed those who pursued shalom— wholeness and reconciliation.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
The Beatitudes describe kingdom character that inverts worldly honor. Peacemakers actively pursue reconciliation and reflect God's family likeness, receiving the name children of God.
