The Context — The History
Israel was enslaved in Egypt when God announced the final plague against Pharaoh. Passover instructions were given on the eve of liberation, establishing a ritual Israel would observe for generations. Blood on doorframes marked homes under God's protection.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After nine plagues hardened Pharaoh's heart, God commanded each household to take an unblemished lamb, slaughter it at twilight, and apply its blood to doorframes. They were to eat in haste, ready to leave. The blood became the sign that death would pass over them.
