The Context — The History
Isaiah 58 redefines true fasting as justice, generosity, and Sabbath delight rather than performative hunger. God promises guiding presence and abundant provision to those who loose chains of injustice and pour themselves out for the hungry.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After exposing hollow fasting while exploiting workers, the Lord describes repentance that shares bread and clothes the naked. Then light breaks forth, healing appears, and God guides always, satisfies need in drought, strengthens bodies, and makes life like an unfailing spring.
