The Context — The History
Jeremiah ministered during the final decades before Jerusalem's fall to Babylon in 586 BC. In chapter 31, God speaks through the prophet to exiles and survivors with promises of a new covenant and restored relationship.

Jeremiah 31 opens with hope for the remnant of Israel. After chapters of warning and lament, God recalls His ancient love for His people and promises to rebuild and replant the nation with compassion.
