The Context — The History
Paul wrote from prison to the Philippian church he had founded. Despite chains and uncertainty, he modeled contentment and dependence on Christ rather than circumstances.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
In Philippians 4, Paul thanks the church for their support, urges rejoicing, and teaches peace through prayer. He then shares the secret of contentment in plenty and in want before this famous declaration of Christ-dependent strength.
