The Context — The History
Obadiah prophesied against Edom, the nation descended from Esau, which rejoiced when Jerusalem fell to Babylon in 586 BC. Edom's pride and betrayal of its brother nation Judah brought divine judgment.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Obadiah announces that though Edom dwells in rocky heights and trusts in its location, God will bring the nation down. No human pride — even eagle-high security — can outlast the Lord's decree.
