The Context — The History
Jesus was on the road to Jerusalem, teaching disciples about leadership and greatness in God's kingdom. Roman culture prized honor and status; disciples argued about who would be greatest.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Mother of James and John asked for privileged seats in the kingdom. Jesus taught that rulers lord it over others, but His followers must serve. The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom.
