The Context — The History
Israel lived among cultures that worshiped nature and kings as divine images. Genesis declares that every human—male and female—reflects God's character and dignity, a radical claim in the ancient world.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After five days of creating animals and filling the earth, God forms humanity as the climax of creation. Male and female together receive the image of God and the commission to rule and fill the earth.
