The Context — The History
God called Abram from Ur of the Chaldeans around 2000 BC, at a time when family gods and local deities defined identity. Abram's journey to Canaan marked the start of God's covenant people in a land of established city-states.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Genesis 12 records Abram's obedience when God told him to leave his country. God promises land, descendants, and blessing—not for Abram alone, but so that all peoples on earth would be blessed through him.
