The Context — The History
Deuteronomy frames obedience as the path to life in the land Moses would not enter. Ancient treaties linked a king's commands to the welfare of vassals; here Israel's king is the LORD who rescued them.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
After calling Israel to love God and teach the law, Moses explains that obedience flows from reverence and leads to well-being. The present survival of the nation is evidence of God's keeping power.
