The Context — The History
Wilderness living stripped Israel of self-sufficiency—no crops, no stored wealth, daily dependence on manna. Moses warned a generation about to enjoy Canaan's abundance not to forget who sustained them.

Deuteronomy 8 connects prosperity with spiritual danger. God humbled and tested Israel in the desert so their hearts would be revealed and later remember that life comes from every word of God.
