The Context — The History
Israel during the judges era cycled through apostasy, oppression, and deliverance. Midianite raids devastated crops and drove families to hide in caves—a time of fear and weakened tribal leadership.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
The angel of the LORD met Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress and called him a mighty warrior. After receiving a sign of fire, Gideon named the place Yahweh Shalom—the LORD is Peace.
