The Context — The History
Israel under Ahab and Jezebel promoted Baal worship, especially in the northern kingdom. Mount Carmel's contest took place during drought—a crisis Baal was supposed to control as storm god.
The Narrative — The Lead-Up
Elijah challenged 450 prophets of Baal to call fire from heaven. After Baal failed and the LORD answered with fire, Elijah confronted the wavering crowd, demanding a clear decision about loyalty.
